S/2825 Antique Treen 19th Century Birch Dog's Head Nutcracker
A beautifully carved Swiss birch screw type nutcracker depicting a dog's head, with curly hair, ears, eyes and teeth. The handle has ribbed decoration and a knop end. A truly fine example of correct anatomical carving by a master carver. The whole has a lovely rich colour and excellent patination.
It is illustrated in the book, Art and Character of Nutcrackers, by Arlene and George Wagner on page 74.
