S/4390 Antique 19th Century Coquilla Nut Snuff Box
An exceptional and beautifully carved early 19th century coquilla nut snuff box of oval form, having a full sized lid with a brass hinge that is intricately carved all over in relief, and depicts a mushroom, wheelbarrow, spade, brush, barrel, ladder and three woven baskets containing fruit or vegetables. The bottom half has an oval border of vertical ribs, that surrounds a hatched oval foot. The majority of coquilla nut snuff boxes are carved with figural scenes, and often with religious overtones. We have never come across such a fine example in such pristine condition, intricately carved with garden impliments and produce. The whole has an excellent rich dark colour and patination.
