S/6038 Antique Treen 19th Century Yew Wood Plumber's Chase Wedge

A late 19th century yew wood plumber's chase wedge, having a copper collar, also known as a glut. These items were made of a hard wood and used by plumbers for drawing sheet lead into an angle, not to be confused with sailors' seam rubbers. A similar item was also used by a woodsman for opening up splits in logs. The whole has an excellent rich colour and patination.
