S/6081 Antique Treen Late 19th Century French Beech Laidou

An interesting late 19th century French laidou of traditional form, having carved initials M and JO on the underside. Laidous were originally from Northern France and were used to germinate and flatten wheat during the harvest period in the late 19th and early 20th century. The whole has a pleasing pale colour and patination.
