S/6062 Antique Treen Georgian Period Fruitwood Miser's Snuff Box

A good quality mid 18th century fruitwood miser's snuff box of circular form, having a pressed carved revolving lid that has an aperture which can be adjusted for size, enough to either take a small or large pinch of snuff. The lid is titled S. Georgius (latin for St. George) and extensively carved with St. George on horseback spearing a dragon, this is surrounded by further smaller figurative panels and stars. The whole has an excellent pale colour and patination.
